Summary

The Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library has one (1) opening for Library Associate 1, this position is 19 hours/week.  Must be able to work a rotating schedule.

 

The Library Associate 1 is the entry level position into the Library Associate job family.  The Library Associate 1 sorts library materials in alphabetic, alphanumeric, and numeric order; shelves books and provides basic customer service to patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts library materials in alphabetic, alphanumeric and numeric order
  • Empty book returns/drops and arranges returned library materials on book carts and shelves them in the proper order
  • Straightens materials on library bookshelves
  • Performs customer service to patrons including check-in and check-out procedures
  • Assist with library programs and displays
  • May assist patrons in the use of self-service technologies
  • Transport books and other materials throughout the building
  • Escalate patron conduct or safety issues to their supervisor or member of management
  • Occasional set-up/break-down of tables and chairs
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.  In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma, GED Equivalent or currently attending High School
  • Experience in a library environment or relevant experience preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends.
