Summary

The Osceola Library System has a part-time, 20 hours/week, Library Associate 2 position open in its Hart Memorial Central Library in downtown Kissimmee.

 

The Library Associate 2 is the Library's front line position and is responsible for the overall customer service focus of the Library. LA2s provide assistance to patrons at service points, in the shelves and at programs and classes, in addition to maintaining a neat collection, helping with technology questions and supporting a love of reading and learning. The LA2 is a team player who works well with others, an outgoing person that likes helping people in a diverse community, an enthusiastic self-starter needing little supervision and is great with technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with any and all Library transactions -- including cash handling, checking in/out items, working with and instructing in technology, processing the transfer of resources from branch to branch, issuing library cards, collecting fees, shelving materials, promoting reading and learning
  • Provide instruction to patrons in the use of the Library and its services and resources; connect patrons to services and resources through personal assistance, displays, word-of-mouth marketing and reader's advisory
  • Support Library classes and events, marketing and outreach efforts
  • Addresses or escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.  In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records

Qualifications

• H.S Diploma or GED required

• Two years of library experience preferred
• Basic knowledge of library systems and databases preferred
• Excellent customer service skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Multilingual speaking a plus.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends.
